General
Tabiji Academy is a private Japanese language academy offering one-on-one lessons with native Japanese instructors. Every lesson is tailored to your goals, level, and learning style.
Our students range from complete beginners to advanced speakers. Many are working professionals, travelers preparing for trips to Japan, people with Japanese-speaking family members, or anyone who has hit a plateau with apps and self-study.
Not at all. We welcome absolute beginners. Your instructor will assess your current level during the first lesson and build a plan from wherever you are.
We are based in Toronto, Canada, but all lessons are conducted online. We work with students worldwide across multiple time zones.
Lessons
Every lesson is 50 minutes. This gives you a focused, productive session without fatigue.
You will meet your instructor, discuss your goals, and do a brief level assessment. By the end, you will have a clear picture of your current ability and a recommended study path. No payment or commitment required.
We use Zoom or Google Meet for video calls. You will receive a personal meeting link after booking. All you need is a stable internet connection, a computer or tablet, and somewhere reasonably quiet.
Absolutely. Whether you want to focus on conversation, grammar, business Japanese, travel phrases, or reading — your instructor will shape each lesson around your priorities.
After purchasing a package, you will receive access to our online booking system. Choose any available slot that works for your schedule. You can book one lesson at a time or schedule several in advance.
You can reschedule or cancel a lesson up to 24 hours before the start time at no charge. Cancellations within 24 hours will count as a used lesson.
Pricing & Packages
We offer lesson packages at different price points. Visit our Pricing page for current rates. There are no subscriptions or recurring charges — you buy a bundle of lessons and use them at your own pace.
We refund the full cost of your first lesson, no questions asked — that is our Satisfaction Promise. You pay $55 up front, you meet Mie, and if it is not the right fit, every dollar comes back to you.
Each package has a validity window: Starter (8 weeks), Journey (16 weeks), Immersion (24 weeks), Mastery (32 weeks). Single lessons are valid for 4 weeks. If you need an extension, contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.
We accept all major credit and debit cards through our secure payment system. All transactions are processed in Canadian dollars (CAD).
If you are not satisfied after your first paid lesson, contact us within 48 hours for a full refund of that lesson. Packages may be refunded within 7 days of purchase for unused lessons only (less a $25 admin fee). After 7 days, unused lessons are held as credit for up to 90 days.
Technical
A computer or tablet with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and Zoom or Google Meet (both free). A quiet space with decent lighting helps, but we are flexible.
Just Zoom or Google Meet, both free. Your instructor may share supplementary materials via Google Docs or PDF, but no other software is required.
Our booking system automatically displays available times in your local timezone. We offer early morning and evening slots to accommodate students worldwide, from North America to Asia and Europe.
If a technical issue disrupts your lesson, let your instructor know immediately. We will reschedule the lost time at no extra cost. We have backup communication methods if Zoom experiences problems.
